Ruby Guthrie Martin

Ruby Guthrie Martin, 78, of Axton, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Henry County, January 6, 1936 to the late Lawrence S. Guthrie and Pearl Barbour Guthrie. Ruby was in the first graduating class of Drewry Mason High School. She was self-employed for many years at Martin’s Sales Agency and also retired from Sears. She was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church and attended Beckham United Methodist Church. She was a member of Fontaine Ruritan Club with 20 years of continuous community service.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ray Alan Martin, Sr. of the home; one daughter, Roxanne Martin of Martinsville; two sons, Ray Alan Martin, Jr. and wife Debbie of Collinsville and Harold S. Martin of Martinsville; one sister, Virginia Sands of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Brian Martin, Elizabeth Witt and Heather L. Martin; three great-grandchildren, Amber Martin, Romeo Alex Martin and Ivy L. Witt.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Ann Sisson officiating.

Memorials may be made to Beckham United Methodist Church.
