Ruth Stephens Young

Ruth Stephens Young, 84, formerly of Martinsville, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Heritage Green Assisted Living in Mechanicsville, VA. She was born in Atmore, Alabama, March 9, 1929 to Fred and Clemie Mouring Stephens. She was a graduate of Averett College and retired from the Virginia Employment Commission after 38 years of service.

Ruth was a member of Calvary Christian Church where she had also served as an Elder, Financial Secretary and was a member of Disciples and Women of the Church. She was also a member of Piedmont Arts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward L. Richardson; her second husband, Doyle A. Young; two sons, Brian David Young and Edward Lee Richardson, Jr.; four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie Taylor and husband, Jim of Mechanicsville, Cheryl Evans and husband, Wayne of Bluefield; four grandchildren, Aaron Taylor and wife, Rochelle, Courtney Holloway and husband, Chris, Lisa Bourne and husband, Josh, and Jason Evans; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, McKenzie and Grace.

The funeral service will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Mike Carrow officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home.
