Sally Ann Kearfott Burns

Sally Kearfott Burns, 92, of Martinsville, VA died Wednesday, October 13, 2021. She was born May 30, 1929 in Martinsville to the late Hugh Smith Kearfott and Kathryn Barr Kearfott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Burns; a son, Hugh Kearfott Burns and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Kearfott Giles. She is survived by her son, Michael John Burns; daughter, Mary Kathryn Burns Washington (Randy); seven grandchildren, Charles Edward Washington, Melissa Washington Cross, Christopher Miles Washington, Kimberly Ann Burns Freeman, Steven James Burns, Emily Kathryn Burns Orr, Joseph Conrad Burns; and four great grandchildren. Sally had a great love of nature, gardening, hiking and photography of wildflowers which she enjoyed with her husband. She and Bob spent many hours hiking and photographing nature in the mountains of West Virginia. Sally was a natural horsewoman with a special knack for convincing a horse to do whatever she wanted it to do. Always full of curiosity and creativity, she was a lifelong learner with special interests in Botany and Geology. She used that knowledge to cultivate a flourishing Japanese garden and greenhouse. Sally had a wonderful ability to create beautiful surroundings by combining her gardening skills with her needlework, knitting, and cross-stitching talents. A private service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy or Mountain Valley Hospice. The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the kind and tender care provided by the nursing staff at Kings Grant and with the Mountain Valley Hospice.
