Sarah Lee Robertson, 89, of Danville, VA passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. She was born on March 19, 1927 to the late George Murray Robertson and Lelia Demaris Doyle Reeves Robertson. After the early death of her mother Lee was raised by her loving late grandparents, George Wilmot and Sarah Murray Robertson.
Lee attended St. Anne’s School in Charlottesville and was a graduate of Averett College and Longwood State Teacher’s College. She also attended graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C.
Lee taught over twenty years at Stratford College in physical education and she especially loved teaching equestrian activities. Lee worked for many years in the City of Danville Public Works Department.
Lee was an active member of Danville’s Pilot Club for over 50 years. She greatly enjoyed the years she spent working on Danville beautification projects. And she loved her many years of volunteering in the genealogy section of the Danville Public Library.
Lee is survived by many Danville friends, especially Linda Whalley, and two cousins who loved her very much, Kristen Cummings and her husband, Stephen, of Half Moon Bay, California, and Bud W. Willis and his wife, Linda, of Pawleys Island, SC.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at College Park Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. CAM McIntire and Reverend Archer McIntire officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Highland Burial Park.
