Viola Oakes Davis

Viola Oakes Davis, 88, of 1023 Owens Road in Martinsville, died Friday, November 2, 2012 at Memorial Hospital. She was born in Pittsylvania County, May 25, 1924 to Bennie Lee Oakes and Jarvie Lee Campbell Oakes. She was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church, the Senior Adult IV Sunday School Class and the Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Rose Society in Martinsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Shackelford Davis, Sr.; two sons, Paul S. Davis, Jr. and Henry C. Davis; one sister, Edna Carter and one brother, Curtis Oakes.

She is survived by one son, Barry L. Davis of the residence; two grandchildren, Teresa D. Queen and husband, Wesley of Ridgeway, Paul S. Davis, III and wife, Katrinka of Ridgeway; four brothers, Melvin Oakes of Union Hall, Roger Oakes of Burlington, NC, Eugene Oakes of Ridgeway and Alvin Oakes of Martinsville; two daughters-in-law, Judy A. Davis of Ridgeway and Ginger E. Davis of Kernersville, NC.

The funeral service will be held Monday, November 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
