Barbara L. Showers

She was a 1968 graduate of Mason High School. On November 16, 1968 she married Douglas William Showers. Together they had three children.

She worked as a Cosmetologist in her early years before starting a career with Mason Public Schools. She worked for 25+ years in a variety of capacities with the schools. Many of those years were spent in Kindergarten classrooms, Kids Clubhouse and Early Learning classrooms. She enjoyed working with the kids and their families. She made many lifelong relationships with teachers and students.

She was a long time member of Columbia Road Baptist Church. She was an Awana and Word of Life leader, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Her church was a second family. She enjoyed trips to Camp Barakel and the fellowship she shared with everyone.

She enjoyed time with family and friends and going up north to the cottage. She especially enjoyed loading up the pontoon with snacks, grandkids, family and friends. She would drive out and anchor in the middle of the lake and jump off the pontoon or just grab a noodle and float the day away.

She loved her grandkids and was very good at spoiling them all. She loved spending time with them. She never missed one of their events. They always knew that Grandma was in the stands cheering them on!

She was an avid fan of Mason sports. She enjoyed watching not only her kids and grandkids, but all the kids she worked with throughout her career with the school!

She is survived by her Husband Douglas, Son Kirk (Kathy) Showers, Daughter Jennifer (Jeff) Granger, Son Scott (Heather) Showers, Grandchildren Brandon, Blake, Brett and Chloe Showers, Zellie, Izzabella, Izyk and Alyza, her sister Susan Moon, and many Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hank and Rosemary Harper, Sister Bonnie Plunkett, Brother in Law Gordon Plunkett, Sister Judy Pitman, and Brother in Law Harold Pitman, Brother Dennis Harper and Nephew Dan Pitman.

Funeral Services to be held Friday August 31, 2018 at 11:00 am at Columbia Road Baptist Church.

The family will greet friends Thursday August 30, 2018 from 2-7 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes in Mason and again at the church from 10:00 am until the service starts.

She had a heart that cared completely and a smile that brought us pleasure. She shared her love bringing joy beyond measure, and will forever be remembered as one of life’s Greatest Treasures.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara’s name to Columbia Road Baptist Church or Mason High School Athletics.
