David grew up on the Southside of Lansing, Michigan. He lived his life in nature as much as he could. As a child he spent hours in the fields behind his family home and his love of the outdoors continued into his adult life. Often you could find David out on a lake or river in his waders, or on a fishing boat. He shared this hobby with others including his childhood friend, Steve Walzak, and his brother, Mike aka Bones. he also planned fishing trips and hikes with the children in his life, his son, Adam, as well as many nieces and nephews. David was very artistically minded in many ways, including making and selling his own line of fishing lures, TikTok Fishnpopz.
His other passion was music. David bought his first guitar, "Stella", at a neighbor's garage sale for $5 when he was around 10 years old. Thus began a long and beautiful relationship with music that he shared with many, especially his siblings. He not only played for his own enjoyment, but he also gave guitar lessons and wrote his own music, including songs about and for his family members. David "The Kid" was known for his electric guitar leads, but shined greatest with his acoustic guitar.
For most of David's working career he worked in home improvement, cabinetry, building, finish work, and maintenance. His artistic abilities were used when finishing a home, but his problem-solving skills were best in his maintenance work. He was highly regarded as the "go to guy" to solving many problems. He worked with many different companies, including being self-employed. His last employment was with S & S Management as Supervisor Head of Maintenance.
David loved his family. He loved providing for them and helping family members with their home projects as often as he could. He was a wonderful cook, gardener, and shared the gift of growing flowers with his wife Kelly of 24 years. Kelly and David were introduced by Laura Franklin, his sister-in-law. He loved silly games with his grandson Longan and was a wonderful father to his two children, Adam and Anna. He was also an animal lover and owned many furry family members over the course of his life, with the last two being Pogo and Skippy. David left a wonderful legacy and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly Franklin, son, Adam George, daughter Anna, grandson Logan, and mother-in-law, Jean Bouse. Sister-in-laws Kim Greve (Larry), Keely and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Arleen Franklin. Also, survived by his father, Robert Franklin Sr., sisters Deb Holefka (Jim), Fee aka Cathy Dionise (Bob), Judy Franklin (Dan), brothers, Bob Franklin (Trish), Mike Franklin (Laura), and life-long best friend Stevie Walzak (Jenny).
