Debra Lee Shafer entered into eternal glory Thursday, December 7 at Sparrow Hospital surrounded by family after a valiant struggle with cancer. She was born in Lansing on January 27, 1951, the daughter of Virginia and Donald Harshman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Shafer, in-laws Margaret and Ted Shafer and favorite Uncle John Bond. She is survived by her son Richard Curtis Shafer (Corinne) of Ann Arbor and daughter Meaghan (Mike Rangel) of Mason; sister Tracy Cannucci of Oregon, special aunt, Jenny Bond, a number of brother and sisters in-law and nieces and nephews. She cherished her much loved grandchildren, Lucille Moon Shafer, Jude Orion Shafer, Gwyneth Araiza Rangel, and Miles Michael Rangel, who provided her with many happy memories. Debby graduated from Everett High School in 1969. She worked for many years at the Michigan National Bank before starting a housekeeping service for many clients, some for decades. Debby was devoted to her family and was caregiver to her husband and mother-in-law during their extended illnesses. She especially loved her role as grandmother. She also loved gardening, Carmel Marvels from Biggby’s, trying new places for lunch, Wheatland, music and celebrating family holidays. Debby was an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Mason where she sang in the choir and provided many additional valuable contributions. She always placed service above self. She participated in numerous fundraiser walks and was rightfully proud of her cap full of pins gathered from them for more than 15 years. In recognition of her commitments, the Mason 2017 CROP Walk for Hunger was declared in her honor. Services will be Tuesday, December 12th at All Saints Lutheran Church in Mason. Visitation will at 10 am with services to follow at 11am. To remember Debby and her life of service, remember to be kind and do something for someone today or contribute to All Saints Lutheran Church at 720 W South St., Mason, MI 48854.
