Age 93, died September 2, 2010 at Hospice House of Mid MI, Sparrow Hospital/St. Lawrence Campus. She was born May 26, 1917 in Waverly, KS, the daughter of Alfred and Alice Williamson. Dolores had been a resident of Mason, MI for 23 years.
Mrs. Wandell was a registered nurse with degrees from Kansas State University and the University of Kansas. She was a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. She met and married her husband, Mr. Howard K. Wandell, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Dolores was a member of the Mason Community Church and the Mason post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She is preceded in death by her husband and sister, Marguerite Alber. Surviving are sons, Howard (Kyoko) of Dansville, Gary (Nancy) of Mason and Dan (Marce) of Jackson; grandchildren, Nicole, Luke, Katie, Emily, Julie, Cora and Narah Meissner (Torre); great-grandchildren, Turin and Lydia; sister, Wilma Jean Blazer and brother, Dean Willimason.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Mason Community Church, 1000 E. Columbia, Mason, MI 48854 with the Rev. Steve Malson officiating. Interment immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason, MI with graveside military honors provided by the V.F.W. Jean R. Anderson Post #7309. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mason Community Church and will be used in the church’s meal program for rural poor in Costa Rica.
