Mason, MI
Age 76, Glenn went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 9, 2010. Loving husband, father, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, he was born at the family farm near Leslie, Michigan, on August 11, 1934. He graduated from Dansville High School in 1952, and married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Hughes) Rice, in 1956. They lived in the Mason area the rest of his life. Glenn worked for a short time at Oldsmobile, and Lans Corporation. His love for the outdoors soon led him to develop his own excavating business, installing septic systems, sewer lines, and farm drains – any job that required a backhoe, bulldozer, or dump truck. He was known as a man with “good dirt sense”. He still enjoyed part-time farming. Glenn was a member of the Mason First Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Carol; son Larry (Barb) of Mason; daughter Cheryl (Mark) Fletcher of Glendale, Arizona; grandchildren, Josh Rice of Taiwan, Levi Rice (Davina) of Mason, Nicole (Mike) Sheahan of Holland, Michigan, Brandon Fletcher and Chelsea Fletcher of Glendale, Arizona, and one great-grandson, Landon Rice of Mason. He was preceded in death by brothers Rollin and Forrest, sister Beulah (Bird) and infant grandson, Caleb Rice. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. (with visitation 1 hour prior to the service) at the First Church of the Nazarene, 415 E. Maple, Mason, with Pastor Mark Rigg, Rev. Gerhard Weigelt, and Rev. Dr. Morris Weigelt officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Felt Plains Cemetery, Leslie. The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Ball-Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson in Mason on Sunday, September 12 from 2-4 and 6-8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 415 E. Maple, Mason, MI 48854, or Eden United Brethren Church, 1948 Eden Road, Mason, MI 48854 in memory of Mr. Rice.
