Gwendolyn Ione Igoe passed away peacefully at home February 10, 2024, surrounded by her four loving daughters, in Mason, Michigan. Gwen was a fiercely independent woman who loved her daughters, sons-in-law, her grandchildren, and her great grandchild. She’d put a smile on everyone’s face with her quick wit and sassiness. She was an avid crossworder, loved going on her annual mother-daughters’ vacations and trips to the casino. Gwen enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams, the Spartans and Tigers, and admired Judge Judy.
She was born to Robert and Gertrude “Trudy” Harper on October 12, 1938, and raised in Grass Lake. She worked for decades at the Country Corner Store in Portage Lake, bonding with her coworkers and regular customers.
Gwen was married to Jim Igoe, who preceded her in death May 3, 1998. She is survived by her four daughters: Monica Jo Igoe (Ruben) Soto, Melissa Igoe (Mark) Cook, Melinda “Mindy” Igoe (Brian) Dexter, and Jamie Igoe Stitt; grandchildren: Hayley Dexter (Ethan) Clark, Haden (Vanessa) Dexter, Spencer Cook, Emma Cook (Jason Pawlowski), Max Cook, Emilia Soto, Ruben Soto Jr., and Murphy Stitt; a great grandchild Leo Clark Dexter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her best friends and sisters, Hilda VanVorst, Shirley Tuttle, and
Geri Haskell. Gwen and her sisters were known as the Harper Girls, who even had their own theme song. They enjoyed being in a bowling league and going on adventures every Wednesday. Her life-long friend, Chuck Fullerton, joined her for breakfast and scratch-offs every Tuesday. Gwen made a recent move to be closer to her daughters in Mason, MI, and made quick friends with Dawn and Rosie.
A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at the Whistlestop Park Depot in Grass Lake, MI, on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, at 1 o’clock p.m. for lunch, memories, and laughs.
The family would like to thank the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice – Jackson nurses and staff for their compassion and support.
