Jack H Silsby

Jack H Silsby, 77, passed away at his home in Mason on July 22, 2018, surrounded by his family who loved and cherished him. A lifelong Mason resident, Jack was born November 5, 1940, to H M and Harriette (Franklin) Silsby Carlson.

Preceded in death by his parents and stepfather Melbourne Carlson, Jack is lovingly remembered by his wife, Connie Mae (Bell) Silsby. Together, Jack and Connie raised four wonderful children, devoted to caring for him during his final days at home; Tom (Kim) Silsby of Mason, Jon (Sandra) Silsby of Union City, MI, Chris (Gerald) Wheeler of Venice, FL and Lisa Silsby of Ft. Myers, FL. His presence will be missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother, Larry (Judy) Silsby and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Jack was a hard working man his entire life who instilled a good work ethic, strong morals and values in his children. Fondly known by his family as, “Mr. Prove-It” or “Mr. Fix-It,” Jack could make almost anything work with some duct tape, a few tools and miscellaneous parts and pieces tucked away in his garage. As a farmer, Jack loved working in the fields and caring for the dairy cows, beef cattle and hogs. He supported his children and grandchildren in 4-H and FFA projects (even helping out with a sewing project or two). In his last days, Jack enjoyed driving around Ingham County, checking the crops and visiting dear friends.

Jack loved sports. When he was young, he played football and baseball, later watching them on television. As he got older much of his free time was spent competing at tractor pulls through the late 80’s. In recent years, Jack enjoyed watching his son Jon carry on with his favorite hobby. When he felt well enough, he would attend Jon’s pulls. As his health declined, he watched tractor pulling online and on T.V. Always interested in every detail.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Aurelius Township Hall, 1939 S. Aurelius Rd., Mason, MI 48854. Please join us for pie and coffee as we share stories, memories and gratitude for a life well-lived.

The family is beyond grateful for the support received through home hospice. Jack’s wish was to be in his home when the time came to say his final farewell. This would never been possible without a great hospice team.
