Marcella Irene Jones

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Marcella Irene Jones of Lansing, MI. She passed away on Jan. 23rd at the young age of 100 years. Marcella was born to Alfred and Mary Ellen (Fitzpatrick) North of Leslie, MI on December 12, 1923. She also had 2 brothers, Fred and William (Bill) and a sister, Ellen.

She met and was courted by a young man named Lawrence Jones. He finally won her heart and they were married on April 7, 1942. Together they worked on the farm and raised 5 children through the years, Lawrence Jr. Phyllis, Pauline, Penny, and Patsy.

Marcella was commander of Disable American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter #8 out of Lansing, Michigan, and she was a life-long member. She was also a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police #141 Capital City Lodge. She loved going to bingo and she worded bingo for the FOP many times.

She knitted and crocheted all her life, from doll clothes to bedspreads and beyond. Most recently she had been crocheting baby blankets for mothers to take their newborn babies home in at McLaren Hospital. At last count she had crocheted and donated 400 baby blankets.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years Lawrence Sr., her son Lawrence Jr., her daughter Phyllis, brothers, Fred and Bill, and sister, Ellen, grandsons, Randy Rowlee, Lucas Scheid and Jimmie Younglove Jr., granddaughter, Brenda Rowlee, great-granddaughters, May Hope, Elizabeth Marie, Mariah Llyne Rowlee, and great-grandsons, Robbie Rowlee, Dylan WIbert, and Wyatt Earl. Her beloved cat, Fuzzee, passed away 4 weeks ago.

She is survived by daughters, Pauline (Michael) Cortright of Stockbridge, Michigan, Penny (Rick) Wirsing of Redondo Beach, California, and Patsy Jones of Lansing, Michigan. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many, many more extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday. January 30th from 4-7pm at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home in Mason, MI at 621 S. Jefferson St. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 31st at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home in Mason, at 621 S. Jefferson St at 12 pm.
