Phyllis Jean Lock, age 78, of Mason, Michigan passed away on Wednesday January 22, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was born January 30, 1941 to Raymond and Mildred (Linderman) Hansen, who preceded her in death. She grew up in West Michigan and graduated from Ionia High School in 1959. She then moved to Lansing with her family and worked at Clark's Department Store and DNC on Mt. Hope. She then lived with her best friend and twin sister, Janet Lynn. She went on to meet Thomas J. Lock at Louie's Party Store, where she would go to buy snacks and sweets on her breaks. She married Tom on December 12, 1964, and they were married for 47 years, until Tom passed away on April 18, 2012. Together they settled in Mason, Michigan, and had three sons, Arend, David, Bill and one daughter, Nancy.
Phyllis was a stay-at-home Mom to four children, which means she had a lot of patience, a heart of gold, and she was busy! She always cared for others with her quiet and sweet nature. She loved the sun, dogs, old movies, books, and most of all, her family. Being a grandmother was her favorite job in the world. She never muttered a negative word about anyone and was tough to make laugh, but when she did, you knew it! She was a first-class worrier but also the calm in such a loud and boisterous family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Lock, parents, and brother, Timothy Hansen. She is survived by her sons, Arend (Kismet) Lock, David Lock, Bill Lock, her daughter, Nancy (Ken) Cowan, beloved grandchildren that filled her with pride, Taylor, Jacob and Dylan Lock, Alivia Brininstool, Hailey, Lindsey Cowan, cherished best friend and twin sister, Janet (Ralph) Lynn, sister-in-law Opal (George Ferkovich) Hansen, and several special nieces and nephews to carry on her memory.
Please join the family for a Visitation on Monday, January 27, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mason First Church of the Nazarene (415 E Maple St, Mason, MI 48854) where Funeral Services for Phyllis will begin at 11:00 AM.
