

Richard Frank Ghinelli “Big Guy” born on January 15, 1943 in Lansing, MI to Paul and Freda (Wardell) Ghinelli, passed away peacefully surrounded by family August 11, 2016 at the age of 73. Richard worked for the Ingham County Sheriff's Department from 1966 until 1999 where he retired as a Major. He was one of the longest serving deputies in Ingham County history. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary’s Cathedral and in the first graduating class of the Mid-Michigan Police Academy in 1966. Richard loved to fish but especially loved his antique car collection. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, nephew and uncle. Richard was a proud Spartan fan! He was also a member of The Italian American Club, on the board of directors for Volunteers of America, St. Casimir Church, The Old News Boys and The American Car Club.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deanna; uncle, Frank Ghinelli; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Jane Fabiano. Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 53 years, Kathleen A. (Fabiano) Ghinelli; sons, Paul Ghinelli (Melissa Hebeler), Joseph (Wendy) Ghinelli, Richard (Laura) Ghinelli; daughter, Gina (Brian) Mulcahy; brother, Pete (Pat) Ghinelli; grandchildren, Deanna Ghinelli, Nichole (Dusty) Stiffler, Megan Mulcahy, Erin Mulcahy, Alex Mulcahy, Robert Ghinelli, Roman Ghinelli; great-grandchildren, Mariah Keener, Kingston Stiffler, Madison Stiffler, Dominic Ghinelli, Kamyah Ghinelli, Brody Stiffler; aunt, Esther Young; brothers-in-law, James Fabiano, Charles Fabiano; sister-in-law, Madeline Blair; several nieces and nephews; and his bonus children, Ted Wheeler, Cliff Walkington and Amy Wright Grasso.
A memorial mass will be held Monday, August 15,2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir Church, 815 Sparrow Ave., Lansing, MI 48910 with Father Bill Lugger officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. with rosary at 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the mass.
