Prudon is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Prudon of Paragon, IN; his son, David Prudon of Raleigh, NC; his granddaughter, Kathryn Jo Prudon of Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy (Leach) Prudon of Mason, MI in 2004; his second wife, Leona (Simpson) Prudon of Mason, MI in 2010; and his daughter, Kathy Jo Fitzgerald of Cold Spring, NY in 2015.
Robert “Bob” Prudon was born on June 11, 1926 in Chicago, IL. Bob’s love for sports and his talented ability as a baseball player earned him an invitation to the Cubs summer training camp in 1944. Unfortunately, WWII intervened and Bob was off to serve in the US Navy aboard a destroyed, the USS Haraden II.
When the war was over, Bob enrolled as a Physical Education Major at Kalamazoo College. After college, Bob’s first job was in Stockbridge, MI, where he was a high school teacher as well as the coach for the Stockbridge Panthers basketball team. Under Coach Prudon’s leadership, the Panthers had several consecutive winning seasons and one championship.
In 1961, Bob became the Assistant Principal of Niles High School and the coach for the JV basketball team. Three years later, Bob moved to Mason, MI, to become the Mason High School Principal, a job he had for 22 years.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church, sang in the choir for a time, and participated in a Bible study group.
Memorial services will be held at a later date for Bob. However, anyone wishing to make a donation in Bob’s honor may make a contribution to the charity of their choice, according to his wishes.
The family is served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Ball Dunn Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.grbdmason.com.
