Dr. Hsien Chang Wang, beloved husband and father, went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2026, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Min Chen Wang; his daughters, Joannie (Albert) Chin, Nancy (Don) Fong, and Amy (Jonathan) Kwok; six grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Chin, Joshua Chin, Zachary Fong, Ethan Fong, Nathanael Kwok, and Talitha Kwok; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Chin.
Hsien Chang was born on February 4, 1939, in Zhejiang Province, China, the eldest son of Yih and Wei Ping Wang. He is also survived by his younger brother, Hsien Yien (Pauline) Wang. When he was young, his family moved to Taiwan and settled in Pingtung, where he met his future wife, Min Chen Hwang, who, by God’s providence, happened to live next door!
He graduated from National Taiwan University with a medical degree and married Min Chen in 1964. In 1965, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he began his medical residency. After completing his training in internal medicine and cardiology, he went on to have a long and distinguished career as a cardiologist, including serving as Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Huron Road Hospital and 20 years of private practice at Hillcrest Hospital.
As a physician, he was widely respected for his work ethic, dedication, professionalism, and compassion for his patients. He worked many long hours, often beginning his day early in the morning and returning home late in the evening, and he never hesitated to respond when emergencies arose, even in the middle of the night.
He showed the same love and devotion to his family, friends, and church. Hsien Chang was a faithful member of the Cleveland Chinese Christian Church for many years, serving as a member and leader. His faith in Jesus Christ shaped his life, guiding his kindness, generosity, patience, and humility. He also faithfully taught his children to walk in that same faith.
Outside of work, he had a passion for both playing and watching tennis, and he especially enjoyed taking in the beauty of water and mountain landscapes. Every summer, he carefully planned family vacations to national parks, beaches, and other scenic destinations, creating many cherished memories that his children still treasure today. He also had a well-known sweet tooth and rarely turned down dessert, happily accepting any sweet treat offered to him.
Hsien Chang Wang was a devoted servant to his family, his friends, his patients, and the Lord. Throughout his life, he was an inspiration and a tremendous source of encouragement to many. Although we will miss him more than words can express, we rejoice in the promise that he is now in the presence of his Savior.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, at Cleveland Chinese Christian Church, 27700 Emery Road, Warrensville Heights, OH 44128. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service.
