Emil Frank Pellan, age 75, born Feb. 16, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2020 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. He lived at Villa Serena Apartment for the last 15 years. He was an outstanding athlete at Mayfield High School, where he won numerous awards as the Wildcat's star halfback. He averaged a whopping 6.9 yards per carry his senior year. He was also a track-star at Mayfield. He placed second in the 440-yard dash at the Ohio State finals in his senior year. His mile-relay team held the school-record for decades. After graduating he was the lead-off batter on several top-tier softball teams in northeast Ohio, was an avid tennis player and instructor and worked as a union plumber and pipe-fitter in Ohio and Texas.
Unbeknownst to many, he was a creative artist and completed two years at Case Western Reserve School of Art. He graduated from both St Francis of Assisi Catholic School and Mayfield High School (Class of 1963). He had a passion for professional and college sports, and especially loved the Cleveland Indians. He kept detailed statistics on his favorite players and teams throughout his life and often had a friendly wager on the game whenever possible. Co-workers and neighbors knew him as “Doc” because he was eager to help anyone interested in learning about dietary supplements and alternative therapies. Few enjoyed comedy more than Emil. He loved to laugh and was often the life of the party. Several people in his life have said that he was the nicest and most helpful man they'd ever met.
He is survived by his son John, ex-wife and lifelong friend Beverly Brockett Bowden, JoAnn Pellan Fiorino (sister), Frances Anzelc Zelko (aunt), nieces: Shari Fiorino Bearce, Debbie Fiorino Angie, cousins: Mary Frances Zelko Priesler, Laurel Meznar, William Louis Erb, Kurt K.
