Fred--I just heard the sad news . . . My and Laurie's families knew each other way back when from St. Martin's . . . And then so many years with you and Laurie and then Laurie on her own . . . I'm just now getting this news. Laurie was great friends of my sister Linda and I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with them. I'm so happy to have re-connected with Laurie after over 30 years in May of 2014.  My heart goes out to Fred and all the Umstead clan. We are both absolutely heartbroken over Lauries passing.  We would love seeing her at the restaurant with her warm gracious manor. Laurie will be sorely missed by all who were Lucky enough to know her as she was a truly lovely person, our deepest condolences to Fred and all of her family.

My sister Laurie was a remarkable woman. She so loved her restaurant family! From her special event mailers, her refusal - out of respect - to address her customers as anything but Mr.

Laurie had many friends and supporters, 
who cared about her and the restaurant
she worked so hard to maintain.  Her spirit is very much a part of Larchmere Tavern - we look for her when we come.  She will be greatly missed.

Laurie accepted me as a new Chef right out of Culinary School we reviewed and executed menu ideas and she was a kind hearted person.  I will always remember her because she trusted me to run the back of the house.  She will always be in my memory as the great person who gave me a "Start" in the culinary business.  I will miss her so much. Fred you are in my prayers.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. I met Laurie at the downtown YMCA thru swimming there. She the avid-walker-jogger and me the avid swimmer. From then on we frequented The Larchmere Tavern where we enjoyed many terrific meals with my family and often alone with my husband Domonic. It was a pleasure knowing you and hearing so many stories about your wonderful family and life's joys and challenges. The laughs we had were true keepsakes like the friendship we developed over 6 short years. RIP Laurie. You were and will always be a special friend to me.
