Ronald Lee Stocum of Mayfield peacefully passed away in the early morning of December 21, 2021. Although his family maintains their grief, “Ron” reminded them repeatedly that he wanted his passing treated as an occasion to celebrate. A man of great faith, Ron was a parishioner of St. Clare Catholic Church in Lyndhurst. He lived his life in the examples of kindness set by Jesus Christ. It was remarkable to see how selfless he became when he encountered someone in need.
Born September 15, 1945, Ron enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. A natural athlete, Ron enjoyed playing racquetball, golf, football, baseball and basketball. When he couldn’t compete himself, he remained a devoted fan of the Browns, Cavs, Tribe, and Buckeyes to name a few. Full of patience and an eye for talent, Ron coached many teams of various sports over the years helping youth and adult players harness their athleticism and skill.
In recent years, he particularly enjoyed dressing up to play Santa Claus at Christmas time, a role that befit him, peaking when he appeared in costume on Machine Gun Kelly’s Instagram story.
Entrepreneurial in spirit, Ron entertained several careers over the span of his 76 years, but they all paled in comparison to his primary job: being the #1 fan to his 5 children and 9 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Eileen (nee Walsh), brother Jeff, and sister Darlene, Ron is survived by: children, Aaron, Ben (Jen), Nate (Elizabeth), Sarah and Zach; grandchildren Ariel, Aidan, Jordan, Natalie, Killian, Julia, Logan, Vivian and Carter; siblings, Sandi (Marty), Dennis (Debbie) and Gary (Marla), and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored. Ron is also survived by his former wife and closest friend, Becky (nee Otcasek).
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Thursday December 30, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 pm at DiCICCO & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 5975 MAYFIELD RD. MAYFIELD HTS. OH. 44124. A 9:15 am funeral service will be held on Friday December 31, 2021 at ST. CLARE CHURCH 5659 MAYFIELD RD. LYNDHURST, OH 44124 followed by a private family interment at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
