Arlene Miller Schleifer was born on July 18, 1945 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She died on September 13, 2021 in Miami, Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Clara Miller. She is survived by brother Lloyd Richard Miller, MD (Andrea) and sons Adam and Evan (Leman) Schleifer, and grandsons Darrien, Maddox and Kyle Schleifer.
Married at 20 in the Beau Rivage to William Schleifer, Arlene moved with her musical in-laws (her husband and five brothers and sisters were the Strat-A-Tones) to North Hollywood, California, and worked in a large bank for several years. Then divorced with two small boys to raise on her own she relocated to Kendall for thirty years before health issues forced her to retire from the Lydecker Law Firm after eleven years. She lived in the Palace Royale from 2016 until the time of her death, eating Sundays with the family at Sweet Tomatoes or occupying a box in the Arsht Center as a loyal subscriber to the Florida Grand Opera and the Broadway Series. Losing at bingo or blackjack at the Palace elicited a “Boo Hoo Wah” from Arlene.
In Miami she worked at Stephens Secretarial Service and transcribed for several prominent law firms for many years. She worked for attorney Gail Grossman for many years in juvenile court, and did agency work. She really wanted to go back to Lydecker while residing at the Palace following a major illness. Retirement was not in her gene pool.
Arlene never forgot a birthday or anniversary and one would expect a card and call with her singing "Happy Birthday!" She maintained close friendships with Stephanie, Anna, Monique, Judy, Marnie, and ex sister in law Andrea Schleifer. Arlene remained close to Melissa Schleifer, Kyle’s mother. Former brother-in-law, Martin Schleifer invited her to all of his family get-togethers. She followed hair stylist “Doctor” Tracey Wooster to five different beauty salons for over thirty years. Richard Manso of Goodyear Tires supervised auto care of her 1991 and 1999 (Wilma) Saturns until Wilma, 17 years old, was sold.
She loved her doctors and they loved her. Doctors Ghitelman, Ritter, Grobman, Haddad, Buznego, Dorman, Sirri and Manuel Gonzalez, Jr were unfailingly kind to her and we appreciate their professionalism and humanity. Similarly the Palace family supported Arlene who participated in newspaper readings, games, trivia, community meetings, nightly movies and Friday Shabbat services. Finally, Dr. Dan Lopez and the compassionate SICU and Trauma Team of Kendall Regional Medical Center must be highly commended for their unflagging and heroic attempt to save Arlene (twice vaccinated and masked) from her ultimately losing fight with Covid 19.
No one could have been a better sister-in-law than Andrea Miller. Andi included Arlene in all of the Miller family activities and many meals. Arlene would say, “I may leave your house, but I won’t
leave it hungry.” And Lloyd’s adult children Gregory and Lauren, and fiancé Joel Castillo, loved their aunt and laughed at her “Arleneisms.”
We would expect Arlene to say at the start of her eternal voyage, “So far so good.”
A funeral service for Arlene will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL, followed by a reception.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.RiversideGordonMemorialChapels.com for the Schleifer family.
