Glenn was a really good, fun and talented guy. I met him while we were both working at BC Hydro in Vancouver in the early 1970's. We hung out a bit, had a few beers and my wife and I went on a great long weekend horse trip at the Flying U Ranch with Glenn, Debbie and a bunch of other friends. Around 1976 I left Hydro and my wife and I went travelling; later when we returned to our working lives we picked up threads with Glenn again, but we lost touch fora long while when Glenn, Debbie and Matthew went back to Ontario. I tracked Glenn down in early 2021 and we had had lots of telephone conversations.  Glenn was very excited, told me about his Florida place, and how we were going to get together either in BC where I live half my life or in Thailand where I live the other half with my wife on our farm. I tried many times to call  Glenn in December of 2021, but to no avail. I finally went on the internet and sadly, read of his passing.  We were both looking forward so much to seeing each other again and renewing old acquaintance. Really sorry I never got to see Glenn again after our 40+ years apart. All the best to Glenn's Family. You lost a great guy who you will always remember with a smile on  his face and a smile on yours.

Just thinking of ya, good buddy. Especially this time of year. None but the best of times.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of my good friend Glenn. A neighbor for 20 years he always had a friendly smile and a twinkle in his eye. We had many good times on the golf course and dinners out.
We all have many great stories about Glenn that we will cherish. He was a unique person of the best kind. Ted and Matt thanks for sharing your Dad with us for so many years

So very sorry to read about Glenn dying. We worked together at BC Hydro and had the odd beer and horseback ride and lots of laughs in the mid-70's. We lost touch with each other for the next 40+ years when I went travelling and Glenn moved back to Ontario., but thru the magic and convenience of Google an internet search put me in touch with him in 2021. We talked when he was still in Ontario and when he first went to Florida. At that time we resolved that we would see each other again with Glenn probably coming out west to BC.  As I heard nothing from him for a while, I emailed him a couple of times, but hearing nothing back, again I resorted to Google and found this distressing  news.  To his family and friends, I am truly sorry.  Glenn was much too young to go and the world has lost a great guy and he will be missed by so many.. So sorry.

I am so shocked and heartbroken about the news of Glenn. I loved being with Glenn for any occasion. He was such a wonderful person and so much fun. I will miss him greatly and remember him with love and affection. I am so lucky to have known him. Peace be with his family.

       I remember that fateful day when Glen walked up to me and introduced himself as a new member….   By the sixth green we were in tears laughing so hard it hurt!!!   I knew right then would be good friends.

     We shared a lifetime of great times, whether    Alone or with our family ( fantastic ) or friends!

     Glen was a man’s man , family matters, interesting, intelligent, knowledgeable and yes , funny as hell! Heck , who doesn’t remember laughing so hard you would be crying!!!     

The words you could use to describe Glen would be endless ( much like his tremendous career) . For me , one word that will forever be engraved , HEART, and he had miles of it! 
I will be forever grateful for the times we shared. 

My heart and my soul will have your mark on me!

I did not know Glenn as he was before my time at the esteemed and highly cultured venue known as the Dixie Squash Club. 

But all alumnus of our humble haven of humor and insanity deserve their condolences from the club. Some of the past members have shared that Glenn was an outstanding person and a decent player.

Sincere condolences to the extended Schnarr family.  Will always remember the first time I met Glen in 1980 when he was CAO of Credit Valley Conservation Authority and I was a board member. In his usual over friendly manner we immediately got onto his favourite subject… good planning .Always appreciated his friendship, his business acumen and his boisterous humour.
He made his mark and will be missed!!!

Glen was a true gentleman.   I always found him to be very knowledgeable and not pushy when it came to dealing with development in Caledon when I was Mayor.  He will truly be missed by many.  My most sincere condolences to his family.

About 38 yrs. ago...I  had a match at Dixie Squash Club....T & D....Toronto and District Squash League....I was paired against Glen...we battled on court and had beers after...played several times after that night...lost touch with Glen...got an invite out of the blue through another friend to try a new golf club...Mediterra...yr 2000...met Glen on the range...he was our invite...we saw each other and started to laugh...got the SCHNARR  hug and hand shake...like 20 yrs never passed.....later that day after Glen's hospitality after the game...Sue and I put out lot in Grey Oaks up for sale 2  days later....bought in Mediterra...every year I thanked Glen for the invite!!!! I lost a great golf buddy, fishing buddy, workout buddy, and truly a great great friend. I can only imagine his  very many friends have the same thoughts. We will all miss him dearly. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.

Glenn was a good friend from MGCC.  We shared lots of wonderful stories about early stage start ups,  numerous golf games and countless glasses of good wine

I had the good fortune of being at MGCC the day Glenn celebrated his 70th birthday with his family, professional photographer in tow.

I sat on the patio and watched the love and warmth of family being captured on this very special occasion.  Glenn was beaming with pride as the photos were snapped at various locations around the 18th hole. He loved his family deeply and it certainly showed on this special day

I told him post photo shoot how lucky he was to have such a wonderful relationship with his family.  He replied with a deep gravely voice “you got that right brother”  and a smile that would warm up a room.

I am glad that I was in the right place at the right time that day and able to witness first hand the love Glenn had of family and the love they have for him.  I will cherish that memory of  Glenn and his family.  It makes me smile.

How can you forget that distinctive voice. So full of life and compassion. Had the honor of knowing Glen for the past twenty years at his winter home in Florida. He was always fun to be around as evidenced by his many friends. He will be missed by all of us. 

Glen’s obituary got it right..a true legend !
I played golf often with Glen these past years in Florida, always a fun day with great stories and many laughs. Several weeks ago Glen birdied 17 & 18 to put our foursome in the money. He was a great competitor and a fine gentleman. I will miss his deep voice, his sense of humor and his friendship.

I’ll really miss Glen. He left far too soon. I enjoyed every minute of my time with Glen at the club and on the golf course. He always had a great energy about him.  He was a class act all the way and all the time. His family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace Glen.

Glen was a great friend: wise, generous, straight forward, truly a man’s man, he meant what he said and he said what he meant!
Fortunate to be his Professional over the past 30 yrs we played in countless Pro Ams, Pro Members and Member Guests.
Win, lose or draw he ended every round with the same quip “love ya brother!”

Words cannot describe the sadness I am feeling with the loss of Glen. My condolences to Matt, Ted, Chris, and all family members. 
Glen was a character and the world has far too few. He certainly never got cheated in life and enjoyed every day. He was a delight to be with. 
He was a great friend for a long time and some of my fondest memories were playing golf and in particular, the many times we played the practice round of the Mississaugua Golf Club Member/Guest with his brother Chris. They were a formidable team and enjoyed great success in the event. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. RIP my good friend.

A true man’s man if there ever was one. From our first meetings at lunchtime at The Dover Sole in Mississauga and then from 1987 at MGGC; there was always that rye smile followed by kindness and friendship.

When Glen said “how are you brother “you really felt that he meant what he said.

Having Glen as a true friend meant so much. I first met Glen some 40 years ago when he worked for the CVCA and I was a young consultant at IBI. The thing that I most remember about Glen was his love of all the common things from our childhood - fishing, playing hockey, trekking through the woods. 
The thing about Glen was that. although he took his work seriously. he loved and lived life to the fullest.
Of course, his love of golf and fine wines come to mind but we also shared a love for good books and history.
He was also fondly known for his many pranks and general silliness., especially when it involved our many friends. It seems like many of the best stories involve our dear friend, Iggy Kaneff. Iggy passed away just recently and I'm sure that he's been waiting for Glen to drive the spiritual golf cart around the next 18.
May God/the Creator allow both of them to play through.

The reflections posted on this site have really captured the essence of Glen. I find solace in reading them. How can it be true that he has gone?
We have been friends since grade 5. Like so many of you, Glen made me feel special. Part of our bond was that we celebrated a birthdate within days of each other. We recently had a 3 hour lunch to celebrate the hard to believe #70 milestone. I will now never forget that Glen said to me, "I have never been happier in my life."
Core to that happiness, I am convinced, is his wonderful legacy embodied by 2 remarkable sons, Matt and Ted and the next generation of grandkids, nephews and nieces. He was so proud of them. 

A larger than life individual  from the moment I first met him in university as part of Plan 74 - such a shock to learn that he is gone.   My deepest sympathy to all his family and colleagues. 

Words cannot express my profound sadness and heartache of Glen's passing.  I am absolutely gutted by this. I knew Glen for over 30 years. He was one of my closest and trusted friends. But, he was also my mentor and philosopher king. 
I played many rounds of golf with Glen at MGCC and elsewhere. Although over the last few years we did not get to see as much of each during the winters, he was always a text message or a phone call away. 
He was such a good and loyal friend. I often turned to him for his counsel and sage advice. He supported me in every way a friend should. We shared a lot of good times together but a few sad moments too. 
Knowing that Glen will never grace our fairways and greens again, truly saddens all of us but more importantly never hearing his calm and soothing voice breaks my heart.
My sincere and deepest condolences to Ted, Matt , Chris and the rest of the Schnarr Family.

Glen was a close friend and neighbour, and throughout our early years we had many  activities that we shared. Hockey and baseball in the back field,  Lourdes and St David school activities, some construction projects with his and my dad.  
  Glen was a good friend and inspiration.

All of the foregoing accolades are well founded but perhaps out of a Canadian sense of reticence and reserve, no one has mentioned Glen's bawdy side.  I am convinced it was what got him out of bed in the morning and it always made me laugh.  When Glen and Zenon were in the room together, the air was blue.  It was a part of Glen that brought him to life for me and I do have many fond memories.  Goodbye Glen.

My condolences to Glen's many family and friends.  Growing up in our  family home in Waterloo, Ontario  in the Schnarr's backyard in the 60's/70's, I learned that Protestants and Catholics could get along in harmony.   This  even though others questioned why we were so Happy Playing together!  

Our parents socialized in a variety of ways and  this made growing up in the hood the best place for all of us who benefited from the life lessons  learned and I believe we all  carried them forward as we moved on in life.
I was fortunate to learn from Glen and his family how to make the best Outdoor natural ice  with a hose,  water, freezing temperatures which gave the neighbourhood a place to play in their backyard all throughout our long Canadian Winters.  As an adult I was able to use Schnarr Rink Making 101 skills to help volunteer at local outdoor rinks at schools in our  neighbourhood for over 35 years.  Thank you Glen and Family! 
Glen when you moved East with your very successful career we lost a great local guy whom we all loved.  The Waterloo Region is so proud of you and what you have been able to share with others in the Bigger Cities.

It’s so hard to believe Glen is no longer with us. Whether he was recommending the latest novel he just read, pulling ( usually the largest) snook out of mangroves, or sinking yet another birdie putt, Glen lived life to the fullest. I am gutted by the news of Glen’s passing. Glen took a chance on newly minted planner working at the City of Brampton 30 years ago and welcomed me into the GSAI team. He showed me how to represent our clients with integrity and how to show leadership to other young planners entering the profession. Rest In Peace Glen. Our friendship was far too short, but I believe I’m a better person for the friendship/mentorship we enjoyed. Matt and Ted, my deepest condolences to you and your families.

Glen and I have been very close friends for over 40 years and have played hundreds of golf games together at Mississauga G.C and spent countless hours discussing the games, business and family over a glass or two of wine. We travelled together on several golf and fishing trips and I have some incredible memories. Glen was a voracious reader and full of knowledge about a lot of subjects which made for some great conversation. It is hard to believe that this well respected and generous man had to leave us this early. 
He loved and was very proud of his sons Matt and Ted and their families.

I have many professinal and personal memories but the last time i saw Glen was an example of his warmth and humour. In Oakville, there is a gourmet prepared food shop Bozzo’s and one day there was Glen behind the counter playing with me and asking  “can i help you, Stephen” completely threw me in an out of context way. Glen was just friends with the  owners ( like he is with everyone he meets) and happened to be behind the counter having some fun with me. God Bless you Glen and thinking of his family . Glen was part of the glue that made our Plan 74 class at the University of Waterloo unique, notorious, and just plain fun. His untimely death has upset us all. He attended every class reunion including our 45th in 2019 and our 46th online because of Covid. As I recall, the online event happened just after he got his first hole-in-one golfing in Florida. Meanwhile, I was freezing and shovelling the biggest snowfall, we have had in years here in the Yukon. Glen made our time together at university fun and the reunions special. He had a mischievous smile and devilish sense of humour and was always up for a new adventure. Now that he has moved “upstairs” I can only imagine what he will get up to there. In this life he made a difference, and we will remember him for it. When I think of Glen, I see the twinkle in his eye and start to smile. Goodbye my friend, condolences to your family.

Oh Glenn we will miss you at the 50th reunion of the Class of '74.  After the shock of hearing the news, my first thoughts were of you and Jules partying in the great beyond.  I will hold that thought.  The class of '74 shared a special bond and you were very much part of the glue that helped to form that bond right from the beginning.  And what a class we were! That is what I will remember.  You would be humbled and humoured by our reminisces of you.   

Thanks Glen for the opportunities you afforded myself and many others at GSAI.  You hired me as a 20 year old kid back in 1989 and we worked together for 25 years.  I litterly grew up to be an adult and somewhat a "professional" with you! Your drive, work ethic and ability to deal with people and situations was a real positive influence.  Hello to those in the "planning" world and my sincere sympathies to Matt and Ted and your families as well as Chris and the Schnarr brothers.   Glen had a zest for life.  His ability to make people feel comfortable and his great sense of humor was second to done. His being able to impersonate clients, sub consultants, local politicians, municipal staff and our own GSAI crew was always entertaining and really was a small personal side of him I enjoyed.   Gone but a huge positive shadow will remain. 

Glen was my friend. We shared 40 years of work , golf, travel  and the occasional beverage. It was out of character for him to leave early.
He was an incredibly accomplished planner. He was articulate when appearing before committees and scrupulously well prepared. He seldom lost.
He was both charming and generous.
Glen was utterly devoted to his sons Ted and Matt and extremely proud of there may accomplishments.

My sincere condolences to Glen's family and the GSAI team.  Sad and shocking news.  Glen may have been the first planner I worked with when starting out 25+ years ago, and I will always appreciate the patience and kindness he offered a newbie lawyer.   Glen was funny and tough at the same time, and worked hard for his clients' success.  May he rest in peace.
