

Jack Stettner of Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on November 28 surrounded by his loving family. One of the United States' "Greatest Generation," Jack lived 93 eventful years filled with adventure and accomplishment. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps soon after the outbreak of World War II and flew 44 combat missions as a B-24 bomber pilot with the 14th Air Force in China. He received numerous decorations and awards for his distinguished service including a Special Presidential Citation. Jack related his WWII exploits in three books that he authored: Memories of the Jing Bao and Beyond; Memories of the Mind; and Infamy, A Pilot's Story of WWII and Beyond. Immediately after the war he and a few colleagues started Veterans Airline and flew United Nations relief cargo into Eastern Europe, including the very first relief flight into Russian-occupied territory. He continued his life of adventure throughout his business career, setting up and operating international operations for a major U.S. corporation. Jack is recognized on the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum Wall of Honor and is an Honoree on the National WWII Memorial Registry. He was married to the remarkable Dorothy Warm Stettner for 60 years and is survived by his children, grandchildren, sister, family, and friends.
