Lucille Lane Frazier, age 105, passed away peacefully at home with dignity and grace on November 9,2024 with her devoted daughter and caregiver by her side. One of seven children Lucille was born in Great Neck, NY on July 19, 1919.
Lucille graduated with honors from University of Miami in 1941 with a double major in English and Education and Psychology. She was very active on campus as president of the Panhellenic Council, dean of her Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority, a writer for both the Miami Hurricane newspaper and Ibis yearbook and served as a voice to the students and faculty. Lucille was selected for Who’s Who in American Colleges and University, a publication that highlights the achievements and biographies of outstanding university students across the country. Just this past October, Lucille was featured in the Miami Hurricane publication as the oldest living alumnus.
After graduation, Lucille volunteered her time and skills to help others in need through the Red Cross as she followed a lifelong career as an educator of young children starting in Youngstown, Ohio. Passionately she advocated for all children to have an opportunity for high quality education.
Lucille returned to Miami, FL and founded Village Pines School , a private school , continuing her goal for all students from differing backgrounds to have the opportunity to achieve and learn in a small class setting. She passed the reigns of administrator to her daughter Margery Amerling , also a lifelong educator from New York, to continue her mission serving families and children of Miami.
Village Pines School is a landmark in the community. Now deceased, Lucille will be honored with a street naming (Lucille L. Frazier Way) ceremony to honor her life and contributions.
Lucille is survived by her devoted daughter, Margery Kline Amerling, a son, Judd Lustig Kline (Fran), and only grandson, Paul Justin Amerling. She is also survived by her younger sister, Ruth Siegel, and loving caregiver of many years, Myrthlyn Butler.
As per her wishes a private burial will be held near her birthplace in New York. A future Miami celebration for the VPS community is being planned.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in honor and in memory of Lucille L Frazier will be gladly accepted to continue her lifelong mission of educating children at Village Pines School.
