Dear Uncle: We were neighbors in Broken Arrow for over 23 years. I will never forget how you taught me to find clams in Anastasia Park in St. Augustine, using our bare feet digging into the sand in that brackish water. Luckily, I didn’t get pinched by crabs, however, I did get cut up by those oysters. Often, you would call me to pick the oranges or calamansi in your yard.  I remember the time you told Ardel & I to help you pick the calamansi, it took us forever, the tree was packed with them. On Saturdays about 7am early in the morning I would see you already out tending to your garden.  And my dad would have me up on the roof sweeping pine leaves, pulling weeds out, mowing the lawn, on a Saturday! You wake up your boys to also do yard work. Uncle, that’s because my dad made me do it! I’d rather be sleeping in on a Saturday. I will miss your cooking...I remember the times you would go shrimping sharing your catch, inviting me over to eat. The way you fried up those shrimp... so crispy, you could eat the whole thing! When I came to visit my folks~I would feel so welcomed because I saw your joyful greeting next door.  I appreciate that radiant smile of yours and roaring laughter. Your Pinoy way of besitos, by nose, would always leave a scent of your cologne on me, lol. I have never in my years seen you with a frown or scowl. I will miss seeing you at church with my Ninang, you two were always such a jovial couple. I will pray for comfort in her sorrow. Uncle, the Lord called you to be with him. May our good Lord  send you into my NInang’s dreams to comfort her. My Heavenly Father does this for me. He comforts me by sending my husband into my dreams with a glimpse of how heaven is and my grief vanishes. Even though it is in my dreams, I’m so very grateful. Death is not the end, LOVE never dies because God is Love. Thanks for being an awesome Uncle and treating me like a daughter, much love~AnaLiz Higueros


My parents were Uncle Arturo's and Auntie Delma's neighbors in the apartment complex across from NAS JAX back in the late seventies.  When I was a toddler I got out of the house one early morning alone, and Uncle spotted me going down the street toward the train tracks.  He scooped me up and returned me to my mother pronto.  He was a great neighbor when my parents and Uncle and Auntie ended up again in the same neighborhood in the eighties, nineties, and 2000s,  generous with Mayport shrimp and his garden oranges.  Uncle, thanks for being there all those years.  I'll always remember you.

Tito, I remember the happy times in Kodiak, Alaska.  Where we lived in bunk house and you and Tita Delma raised us.  We miss you so much!  The memory I cannot forget is when I was about 3 or 4 years old and you used to kiss me on my cheeks.  My cheeks would turn so red from your mustache, that would irritate my skin!  LOL I’m so glad we got to visit and share many more happy moments with you!  THANK YOU so much for your unconditional love to my Tita!  I cannot thank you enough for bringing the family together here in America.  We love you so much.  REST IN PARADISE TITO.  Till we meet again.  

Tito.. I am so heartbroken. I miss you and love you. You will never be forgotten. Wish we had spent more time with you but so glad we were able to see you one last time. May you rest in peace!

Arturo is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Delma N. Reyes; three sons: Arturo N. Reyes, Jr., Edward N. Reyes and Ardel N. Reyes; Sisters: Emelda R. Merino, Clarita R. Supiping, and Jocelyn R. Ondajon; four Grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
