Gone, but not forgotten is a phrase used more than anyone would like. And what I would like to share so it’s not forgotten IS Grandpas ability to teach, show, and live that being rich isn’t just about monetary. Grandpa ( and Grandma) both always showed me at a young age that being rich is far more than about the money in your bank account. They were living proof that rich in love, rich in family, and rich in pure joy in everyday life is the ultimate richness. Grandpa (and Grandma) always showed up to soccer games, graduation, and all life events to show their love and support. 

I distinctly remember a trip to SeaWorld that they took me on, and how much pure joy was in their faces to see the place in my eyes, from my young perspective. If I had known then, what I know now about the amount of money and sacrifices they had to make to just make that trip happen.. I would had made sure to tell them how truly appreciative that I was. 

Now (if you have read this far I’m surprised haha), noticed how in the second sentence of this I used the word IS, not WAS; this is because I truly believe that though not physically here, Grandpa and Grandma both live on through us in the lessons they taught us along the way. Grandpa and Grandma will be there any time I see the true meaning of rich, or every time we take our son to SeaWorld, or every soccer game he has I can hear them cheering him on. They are always all around us, and continue to help teach us lessons and pass them on; it’s just our job to see it. This is my constant reminder to myself that when I feel lost or without an answer, to come read this and remind myself, they are there still, it’s just our responsibility to see it. I love you Grandpa and Grandma.

Carlton is survived by his wife LaVerne, his sister Lynda Murphree (Curtis), his children Chris (Diana), Robyn (Joey), his 4 grandchildren Lee Watson (Lindsey), Brittany Church (Colby), Keith Watson (Jessica), Noah Wilkinson and his 3 great grandchildren Lilly, John Luke and Hunter.
Carlton was predeceased by his father and mother Melvin and Vila Wilkinson, and his wife of 52 years Charlene.
