Joyce M. Avery, age 80, passed away on Sunday, August 25 in Orange Park, FL, with her husband of 57 years by her side. Joyce was born in Brooklyn, NY, one of 8 girls born to her parents, Margaret and Clifton Marvel.
Joyce is survived by her husband a loving and dedicated caregiver of the last several years, Melvin; her children Donald Pacquing; Carol Long (Richard); and her twins, Bill (Shawn) and Mina (Chris) Avery; grandchildren Jordyn, Lanie, Tate, Myeka, Karyn, Aaron, Kaine and Craig; and 3 great-grandchildren Carter, Caroline and Caleb. She was predeceased by her oldest and much loved granddaughter, Sydney. She was pre-deceased by sisters Barbara, Shirley, and Bonnie. She is deeply mourned by her surviving twin sister, JoAnn Brown, of Salisbury NC, and sisters Karlyn, Katherine, Patsy, and stepsisters Lillian and Marianne. She also leaves behind her inseparable feline companions Juliette, Pumpkin and Marlo, and any other stray, feline or otherwise, fortunate enough to find the porch on the Avery home.
Joyce worked for many years as a caregiver in the health industry, working in nursing homes and in private home care. True to her nature, she was a loving and caring companion to her patients.
Services are private. Donations in her memory can be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
