Another year has gone by without you here. This year was so hard not having you. I really needed your warm smile and beautiful words of wisdom. I miss you sweet lady and will come and say a rosary with you again soon.

I was a student of Ms. Black's back in 1994/1995. She was an absolutely wonderful professor and introduced me to the works of Maya Angelou. I had thought of her and decided to look her up and was met with word of her passing. I removed a run-on sentence just now and thank her (and Mrs. Hargreaves, whom I also had) for teaching me how to write, which is something I do a lot at my job. God Bless Ms. Black and her family and friends and may the great memories of her continue throughout everyone's lives.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think of you. I miss talking with you. I miss your advice. I miss hearing your voice and seeing your beautiful smile. But most of all I miss your love. Ryan and now Luna have gone to be with you. Watch over Luna for us, hug her often. You would have loved her big sister, Aurora. She smart, beautiful and has her daddy wrapped around her beautiful little finger.  I love and miss you my dearest friend. 

I can't believe this. I found her on Facebook it must have been right before she retired. She was reading intervention. I wanted to tell how great I was doing. She is an awesome teacher:(

I had just found my family 20 years ago and they all treated me with such love and warmth. Linda and Thom went out of their way to come and see us in Georgia at my daughters house, we had such a great time. The laughter the love was like I had always been with them. They all told me stories about me when I was little. But the first time I met them was at my cousin Ruth’s House when I flew out to meet my family in Florida. I will forever miss you I love you Linda but I know you are with Thom Just having a great time. Because that’s who you are. Love Wendy

I worked in the library at SJRCC for 16 years and have very fond memories of Linda Black. She was always smiling and I know her students loved her, including my two sons. My condolences to her family. I know she will be missed. May she Rest In Peace and May light perpetual shine upon her.

I loved the many years I worked with Linda. She was so very loved by her students. I will always cherish our friendship which grew to becoming prayer partners after I encouraged her to make the Cursillo retreat. God is lucky to have her as an angel. We are all so lucky to have known her. 

I met Linda when I attended SJRCC. I worked as her assistant and talked her into helping out with our Phi Theta Kappa chapter. We developed a close friendship that continued after graduation.  We watched our children grow up and helped each other welcome each new grand baby.  

Over the years we have laughed and we have cried tightening the bonds of our friendship. I can only imagine the smile she beamed when she saw that my son and his wife have become pregnant with their first child. My sadness is that I couldn’t share that moment with her.  I miss Saturday morning brunch with her and Thom and lunch dates at Ale House. I am going to miss most spending Christmas Eve with her before midnight mass. I will light a candle for you my friend every Christmas Eve in remembrance. 

God knew what He was doing when he blessed our lives with such a wonderful soul. I know that I am by far a much better person by just knowing her. 

It was nice of Linda to help me as a new remedial reading teacher. She was generous is sharing resources and ideas. She loved her family to the moon and back. “May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”

God bless Linda! I met Linda in 2003 when I began teaching at SJRCC. Linda was a warm and compassionate person, humble, determined, brilliant, and dedicated professor. Her students truly enjoyed her classes, and she is loved and respected by faculty. 

She offered friendly professor to professor advice upon my arrival at SJRCC that I will never forget.

I first met Linda in 1994 when I was hired as a Counselor at St John’s River Community College.  
She and her friend, Debbie, were so friendly and asked me to join them for lunch. Over the years we talked and laughed together as she helped proctor the CLAST exams, which was one of my responsibilities.  She was such a wonderful teacher, loved by her students, and an asset to the college.  I know she was proud of her children and grandchildren.  She often told me about Angie and what she had accomplished.
She even sent me a personal message when Ryan received his BS at UNF. I’m praying for all of you as you adjust to your loss. I’m 
thankful she was my friend.


I will always be grateful for Linda's kindness and mentorship when I first join the staff of the college teaching English.  My favorites memories are of our conference trips to CCCC or developmental English asscociations..  Cathy Denny and Mike Crocker were at most of these in those days, and we did not neglect the opportunities to enjoy our time together.   She also helped me in my first semester as an adjunct instructor in Orange Park in the summer of 1992.  I believed she lent her support to my appointment 27 years ago.  She exuded wisdom,kindness, and compassion for students and colleagues alike.  She will be deeply missed.

I worked with Linda for sixteen years and been a friend beginning at work and lasting after we both retired. When I think of Linda it comes in the form of glimpses. One time she mentioned she  graded papers in her Lazy Boy chair and  I can envision her writing comments on all those myriad of papers, busy with her pen, showing students where they excelled and where they went astray. I can envision her tapping her fingernails on the table where we shared lots of lunches and tales from our lives. Her nails were bright and often decorated with sparkles that were in keeping with her vivacious  personality.  But sometimes we talked about her faith and how important it was in her life. She referred to herself as devoted and she was. She painted pictures of her family, all of them; and there were many, including her grandchildren as they became part of the family.  I see her making  many quilts for them. I will miss her,  but I will always have my glimpses.

I will forever remember Linda's smile. The warmth and sincerity of that smile.  Oh the laugh.  Linda's. laugh would light up a room. I will miss her smile and her laugh but more than than that her huges.  Warm and caring and faithful to the Lord. 
God blessed us all with Linda Black. Peace be with her and her family. 

Linda was a dear friend and colleague. To her family, children, and grandchildren, let me express my deepest sympathy. As you know, she was an amazing woman and touched so many lives. When I came to work at the college in 1989, she and Doug Ledbetter were my mentors. Both shared insights and material and offered advice and support. I have so many fond memories of her humor, her love for students, and her faith. One time I had a severely disabled student in class and honestly didn’t know where to start to help him. He soon switched into Linda’s class, and she helped him tremendously in both academics and personal achievements. She was so proud for him, and I was humbled by her patience and support .  She loved helping people. I know she was welcomed joyfully into Heaven as a good and faithful servant.  We will miss you, Linda!

Where to begin, where to end? I first met Linda in 1984 when she came to work with me at St. Johns River in the English department as an adjunct instructor. I was the only full time person until the college was wise enough to hire her full time in 1988... for 2 years, we were the department. In all Linda and I worked together for 30 years and were dear friends for 35.
 The joys we shared are too many to mention... concerts to see the Moody Blues and John Gorka, among others; enjoying the play she directed on campus in the early 90's; sharing funny, and challenging, moments from our classrooms; riding together to Gainesville to grade the State Writing Exam, in a top-down  convertible with wonderful loud music playing and making lasting friendships with the professionals we met and worked with there; watching the incredible success of students we shared in our classrooms, both academically and in their careers after graduation; teaching each other's children and family members; parties and gatherings of each other's families; lunches and movies together after our retirement.
We also shared and supported each other in hardship... in our time together at work, we lost colleagues and students and attended their funerals together. I spoke at a number of them and could not have done so without Linda's support and input. We also lost a former colleague who was a "sister" to both of us... that was only bearable together. Most tragically, I hurt painfully for her in the loss of her brother Thom, a wound and loss for all who knew his smile and wicked sense of humor.
Linda was the sister my parents did not provide.   She has been a wonderful part of the latter half of my life... it would not have been as special without her. It will continue to be special in remembering her.

I am so sadden by this news.  My daughter bought Linda's Middleburg home in 2016.  It is rare that you get to know the previous owner when you buy a home but with Linda it turned into a sale that included a very personal friendship.  I learned that this home was a joint purchase with her brother Thomas/Tom with the plan to be a forever home. I learned that tragically & accidentally her brother passed away. Yes she told me the details. Maybe it was one of those times I called her saying there was mail she needed to pick up & when she came back to HER home, we visited as 2  sisters & mothers.  We talked about our brothers & our children.  We were very surprised at how much we related to each other. We formed an amazing bond.
I am so sad to learn of Linda's passing.  I could go on & on about our conversations but I will tuck them away & cherish this special friendship.  RIP my friend. I hope you found our conversations as special as I did. Blessings going out to your family.

Ms. Black was a wonderful lady! She was my English professor at SJRCC many years ago. She always had a smile on her face and cared about her students.  I just ran into her at Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago and we had a great conversation.  She was telling me about her family and all about her precious grandchildren. Hugs & prayers to her family during this difficult time. 

Linda was so sweet and great to talk to. I will never forgot our summer European trip in 2006. Cheers to you Linda. Till we meet again! 

I am very sorry to hear of Linda's passing.  We attended St. Luke's together and I knew her from being Extraordinary Ministers together.  She was a very sweet lady.  You are all in my prayers.

My deepest sympathy to Linda's family. I knew Linda from Sacred Heart Catholic Church where we both served as Eucharistic  ministers. It was one of her favorite things she loved to do at church.  She will be missed by all who knew her at Sacred Heart. May she rest in peace and may God hold her in the hollow of his hands.

I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Linda.  I got to know her at Sacred Heart Church, where I lead the choir, and she was such a kind and warm person.  Please know that your family is in my prayers.  Her presence will be missed greatly!

 We will truly miss Linda‘s vivacious spirit and the energy she brought to our small PEO chapter. She was a vigorous bidder and generous buyer at our annual Christmas auction which supported women’s loans, Scholarships and grants.

Linda Black was truly a wonderful woman who lived life to the fullest.  She always embraced every moment  as a new experience to be added to her fabulous book of life.  She loved God, and all of her people.  She was one of the toughest and at the same time most gentle and loving women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.  I will miss her more than words can convey, and I am so very sad she is no longer with us on this earth.  You will be missed, Linda, by every single person who knew you.  The students here at Snyder will be very sad without your presence gracing us. You have touched so many of their lives in ways they will never, ever forget.
Linda, to you I say, I was always happy when you wore your bells.  I will smile every time I hear them ring.

🙏🏼My condolences to the family 🙏🏼

Linda had a joyful heart and despite her afflictions/struggles she was always willing to share her time and talent through the ministries she shared in St Luke’s and all the previous parishes she had been a member of.  I am humbled and privileged to have known her- A friend and sister-in-Christ. I will miss her and her absence will be felt by all of her classmates  in our Biblical Class here at St Luke’s as well as all she has touched here in our temporal world.

Although I knew Linda for a “short” time;
I will miss her: “Bostonian/Massachusetts” accent and personality. Her seat cushion that she carries with her to Bible class, Bingo or retreat mission at our parish.  She was a strong and independent lady. One I admired and respected.
