

Born May 28, 1939 in Charlotte, NC, Charlie was a son of the late James and Mattie Hodge. In 1957, Charlie moved to Glenview, IL when he entered the U.S. Navy. Charlie lived in Niles, IL for 28 years, where he owned Charlie’s Locksmith and Home Maintenance and was a Reserve Police Officer with the Niles Police Department. He moved back to Charlotte in 1984, where he started Charlie’s Plumbing and Home Maintenance. Charlie was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed NASCAR and spending time with his family.
He loved children and children loved him. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Hodge; daughters, Deborah Anderson and husband, Tom, of York, SC and Denise Boston and husband, Mike, of Mint Hill; granddaughter, Kelsey Anderson of York, SC; grandson, Wil Boston of Mint Hill; sister, Kay Harmon of Concord; brother, Teddy Hodge of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Glen Schaumberg officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. A reception will be held following at the residence.
