He was born on May 14, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia, to James Henry and Agnes (Plant) Strickland.
He attended the University of Georgia.
Mr. Strickland worked as a salesman and later as an assembly line worker for Coca-Cola in Montgomery, Alabama. He had resided in Charlotte for the last twenty years.
Survivors include his three brothers, Henry (Weslin) Strickland, Matthews, NC; Shelby (Eleanor) Strickland and Phillip (Melinda) Strickland, all of Columbus, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held later in Columbus, Georgia.
