Marcel Francis Reynolds (Marc) passed away on Sunday, January 23 with his wife (Florence) and three children (John, Lori and Lynn) by his side. Marc was born on May 11, 1940, in Iron Mountain, MI to Montague and Therese (Sciez) Reynolds.
In 1967, Marc married the love of his life, Florence Modlin Reynolds, after a brief courtship of only four months. They were married for 55 years on January 22, 2022. Marc was unequivocally a family man who was most proud of his long-lasting marriage, his three children, John Reynolds (Kay), Lori Harrelson (Mike) and Lynn Valenti (Chris) and seven grandchildren (Elizabeth, Lauren, Caroline, James, Amelia, Ashley and Chloe). It is a testament to Marc and Florence’s loving marriage that their children and grandkids (ranging in age from 23 to12) are all incredibly close even though they live in different states.
Marc graduated from Iron Mountain High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech University. He joined the U.S. Army in July 1962 where he excelled, earning several awards indicative of exceptional leadership and inspirational commitment. In 1970, he earned a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. Following his graduation from NCSU, Marc went back to Vietnam for a second tour. Upon returning to the states, Marc worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He and his family first lived in Memphis, TN for three years followed by Germany for three years and Fayetteville, NC for one year. Upon Marc’s retirement from the Army, he and his family moved to Savannah, GA where he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian until his retirement in 1994. Following his retirement, Marc and Florence moved to North Carolina to first live in Asheboro, followed by Mint Hill and finally settled in Matthews.
Marc was known for his high energy and upbeat, happy demeanor, his strong catholic faith and his love of beer and pretzels. He truly enjoyed life, loved his family and friends and was always ready to share a beer.
Marc is survived by his wife, three children, seven grandchildren, and his sister, Dorothy Waldbillig (Tom). Marc was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sister Therese Reynolds.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to John Andrysick, Marc’s Visiting Angel. John was Marc’s caregiver and more importantly his friend. Marc always looked forward to his visits with John where they often shared stories, songs and jokes.
