Mary Moon Keller

Born February 19, 1936, in Johnston County, North Carolina, Mary was a daughter of the late Johnnie Jo Moon and Swannie Atkinson Moon. Her family moved to Hamlet, North Carolina in 1942. As a high school student, Mary started to work with Southern Bell as a plug-board operator. She later moved to Charlotte where she continued to work with Southern Bell and retired after 43 years of service.

Mary was married to Everette Keller for approximately 10 years. She had a passion for working in her flower garden. Mary was a faithful member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and attendee of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Moon Cochrane.

She is survived by her brothers, James C. Moon of Raleigh and Jimmie I. Moon and wife, Doris, of Pinehurst; her brother-in-law, Ken Cochrane of Matthews; and three nieces and nephews and six grandnieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 18, at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Matthews, with her funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Reverend Dr. H.W. “Buddy” Pigg will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
