
He was on born May 15, 1955, in Charlotte, NC, to Bennie Johnson Hinson and Rosalee (Phillips) Hinson.
He married Helen McCall on December 24, 1983, in York, SC.
Phillip was a Vietnam veteran who served his country in the United States Marine Corps from August 13, 1973, until his honorable discharge on June 29, 1979. He received the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Hinson was extremely proud of having served his country in the USMC.
Mr. Hinson was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and skeet shooting.
He was a professional butcher who was trained by his father who had been certified through correspondence courses as a “professional butcher.” Mr. Hinson worked for his father at Big Ben’s Meat Market and Store for seventeen years. His last job was at Park and Shop Grocery Stores.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, and son, Kevin Christopher Hinson, both of Charlotte; his mother, Rosalee Hinson, and his sister, Rebecca (Maurice) Desmarais, both of Charlotte; and his brother, Bernard Jeffery “Jeff” Hinson, Monroe, NC.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25th, at the funeral chapel. Reverend Henry Ward will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens followed by graveside military rites.
He was preceded in death by his father.
