Ruby Welch Johnson

Mrs. Johnson, 85, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Pruitt Health Union Pointe care facility, where she was blessed to have received excellent care from the devoted staff over the last several years. Her family is extremely grateful for their incredible care and devotion. Mrs. Johnson’s family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 4855 Albemarle Rd, Charlotte, NC. After receiving friends, a service honoring her life will be held at 11:00am at the church, with Dr. James Weddington officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC.

Born February 1, 1935, in Milledgeville, GA, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Frank G. Welch and Jewel Clark Welch. Mrs. Johnson was a charter member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School and Bible Study teacher for many years.

Mrs. Johnson loved to read, which included daily Bible Study, and she frequently visited the library and read an average of a dozen books a week before she became ill. She was an excellent seamstress who made her children and grandchildren’s clothes when they were little. Her favorite travel destination was the North Carolina Mountains with her husband, children or friends, and she always prepared a fried chicken, potato salad picnic basket to enjoy when they arrived.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John J Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Johnson Lancaster (Larry) and son, David N. Johnson (Joyce), her two grandchildren, Chris Lancaster (Crystal) and Amber McReynolds (James); and four great-grandchildren, Cameron and Ciarra Lancaster and Garrison and Aidan McReynolds.

Due to COVID-19 the family kindly asks that anyone in attendance wears a protective face covering.
