A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, May 28, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, with The Rev. Dr. Angela Rogers Marlowe and The Rev. Jonathan D. Marlowe officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rogers was born January 28, 1920 in Matthews, the daughter of the late Frank Amos Fowler and Lucy Jane Stilwell Fowler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight sisters and her beloved husband of 68 years, Vernon (Pike) Fernoy Rogers. She was a graduate of Matthews High School. She was employed by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company as a bookkeeper, and she spent many years caring for other members of her family.
Mima loved the earth, trees, grass, and flowers, but most of all she cherished the joys and bounty of a summer's garden. Until recent weeks, she could be seen using her energy to care for the Spring gifts of early cucumbers and tomatoes. She took much pride in sharing these for many summers with her beloved family and friends.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her son, Thomas F. Rogers and his wife, Janice Cole Rogers, of Matthews; two granddaughters, Rev. Dr. Angela Rogers Marlowe and her husband, Rev. Jonathan D. Marlowe, of Gibsonville, NC, and Amy Rogers Raynor and her husband, Brian A. Raynor, of Matthews; three great granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Marlowe, Rachel Marie Marlowe, and Brianna Grace Raynor; one great grandson, Cole Thomas Raynor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Charlotte Karriker and Dr. Richard Foulke and their staffs for their skill, patience, and care given to Mrs. Rogers.
Memorials may be made to the Idlewild Volunteer Fire Dept., 10241 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
