Alan Robert Kelly

July 6, 1942 – June 30, 2025

Alan Robert Kelly passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on July 6, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, he was the beloved son of Samuel Kelly and Eva Kelly (née Hershovitz). He grew up in a warm and loving home with his older brother, Paul, and their cherished dogs, surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A bright and curious child, Alan developed an early love for fishing, astronomy, science, and mathematics. He earned his Associate of Arts degree from Los Angeles Community College and briefly considered a career in teaching math. His life changed forever at age 17 when he met his first and only love, Judy Lee Evans (daughter of Abraham Evans and Esther Glesser). They married on February 15, 1964, and together built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.

Alan and Judy eventually settled in Northridge, California, where they raised their two children, Sean Monte Kelly (b. 1971) and Staci Monique Kelly (b. 1974). A devoted husband and father, Alan took over and grew his father’s business, Kelly Typewriter Service. He was respected in the industry not only for his skill and knowledge but also for his warmth, kindness, and ever-present sense of humor. Rarely did a day pass without one of Alan’s signature jokes.

Alan and Judy shared a passion for travel, especially cruising, and spent countless weekends at their cherished cabin in Pine Mountain, California. In retirement, they moved to Bakersfield to live on a golf course, where Alan embraced Judy’s love of golf and played nearly every day. He was always her biggest supporter—cheering her on at Dodgers games, playing poker by her side, and encouraging her through marathon training.

Alan was a proud grandfather to Ian (b. 2003), Alexander (b. 2006), Reese (b. 2007), and Nicholas (b. 2010). He was a steady, loving presence in their lives and always treasured the family dogs—a true rock for his entire family.

In 2021, Alan faced the heartbreaking loss of his beloved Judy to Alzheimer’s disease. Despite receiving the same diagnosis himself in 2023, he never lost his humor, resilience, or his signature smile.

Alan is survived by his children, Sean (married to Dawn Dolan in 2000) and Staci (married to Paul DePatie in 2001); his grandchildren, Ian, Reese, Alexander, and Nicholas; his brother, Paul Kelly (widower of Ilene Ross, now married to Linda Kirshner); his nephew, Stephen Kelly (married to Jen Grossman); his niece, Valerie Kelly; his extended family of cousins; and many dear friends.

Alan’s warmth, laughter, and deep love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of devotion, joy, and endless kindness. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
