Born in New York City on October 7, 1929 to Hyman and Yetta Rubin, Bernice passed away on April 20, 2017 after a period of declining health. She moved to Los Angeles with her mother in 1946 and attended Fairfax High School from which she graduated in 1947. In the years that followed, Bernice worked fulltime and took evening classes at Los Angeles City College. In 1948, she met and began to be courted by the man who became her husband in 1952 and shortly after, began an over 30 year career working at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. After living in several different communities in the Los Angeles area, Bernice and her husband Ted settled in the San Fernando Valley where they raised their daughters in the home that they had purchased in 1965. Since retiring more than 30 years ago, Bernice and Ted had spent most of their golden years traveling to places near and far, being active with their friends and temple community, and doting on their grandchildren.
Bernice will always be remembered for devotion to her family, for her larger than life personality, and for her sense of style and taste. She is survived by daughters Rena Perez (Mark) and Bonnie Goldman (Morrie), granddaughters Josephine Perez and Melissa Goldman, and grandsons Joshua Goldman and Benjamin Perez. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her parents, her brother Ken Rubin, and granddaughter Samantha Perez.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations in Bernice’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org), Congregation Shir Ami (P.O. Box 6353, Woodland Hills, CA 91365) or to any charity of your choice. Services will be held at 3:00pm on Monday April 24, 2017, at Eden Memorial Park in Mission Hills, California.
