After graduating from Penn State University, George Sharp moved from his home town of Harrisburg, PA, to Los Angeles, CA, where he met and married his beloved, Joyce, earned his Master of Science degree, served honorably in The U.S. Air Force Reserves, and started a family. He adored his wife, Joyce and was always by her side through life's challenges. He was very proud of his children's accomplishments. In addition to his family, his most treasured accomplishment was being a college professor in psychology and neuroscience and he taught at a number of Southern California institutions, including Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine University, and UCLA. His heroes and many of his best friends were scientists.
George loved the beauty and peace of the outdoors and spent many days sailing on his boat out of Marina Del Rey, always inviting family and friends to join him. He was also an avid music lover, filling his home with music as well as becoming a fixture, along with his wife Joyce, at many local venues for jazz, symphony, and rock & blues. Friends also knew George for his humor. He could laugh 'til he wept and kept a great sense of humor up until he left us.
We will remember him for his intelligence and humor, his deep admiration and respect for science and education, and for being a fiercely protective
husband and father.
We will miss George always and a be forever grateful for his love and care.
Mr. Sharp is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Sharp; his daughters, Sonya Sharp and S. Sharp; sisters, Sherry (Dr. Paul) Kandell and Wendy Nicholas; nieces, Kimberly (fiancée Evren) Peirce, Pilar (Michael) Loconte, Heather Bakely, and Sabrina Fox; nephews, Brett Rodriguez and Daniel Bakely; and his many cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Groman Eden Mortuary.
