Goldie was born on October 31, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Dora and Abraham Class. She was the proud sister of her older brother, Sam and younger brother Leon. Goldie grew up in Chicago and loved sharing cherished memories of her family. On November 23, 1944, she married Sidney Beress in Chicago. They shared 58 years together. Their first son, Paul, was born in Chicago. Their second son, Rick, was born in Southern California after they had moved from Chicago.
They eventually built their home in Sherman Oaks, which became the epicenter for many family gatherings over the years. Goldie chose to dedicate herself to being a “ balabusta” (homemaker) and became an amazing cook. She also was very social and never met a stranger she didn’t eventually befriend. Goldie was passionate about music, the arts and culture. She became involved in the Skirball Cultural Center and Brandeis University programs bringing music to children in schools and hospitals. Goldie and Sidney were also dedicated supporters of the performing arts and enjoyed attending performances through the years. She loved her family with a passion and received tremendous enjoyment from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family and friends will always remember her as a vivacious force of nature with a generous and kind heart.
