

Max Stone of Saugus, California, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 (22 Elul 5774). Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 21, 2014, at 12pm, in the Groman Eden Chapel of Groman Eden Mortuary, and will be officiated by Rabbi Jerry Cutler. Mr. Stone, an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Army, is a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was employed by the Los Angeles Dodgers for 25 years, and worked in the box office, and as an usher.
Mr. Stone is preceded in passing by his mother, Elizabeth Brandeis; his sister, Sally Moss; and uncles, Harry Goodman and Joe Goodman. He is survived by his nephew, James Goodman of Burbank, CA; and surrogate close family member, Steven Stargen of Santa Clarita, CA.
Max Stone was born on April 12, 1921, in Milwaukeee, Wisconsin, to the parents of Michael and Elizabeth Brandeis Stone. His formative years were spent in Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated from Von Steuben High School. Soon after, Max worked for Marshall Fields Department Store, and as a proof reader for the Chicago Tribune. Subsequently, he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, and became a combat Paratrooper. His passion for life continued as he went on to become an Umpire for the baseball minor leagues. It was this path that allowed him to fine tune and showcase his oratory skills. Max continued his life's journey by moving to Los Angeles and working for the United States Postal Service as a mail delivery man. Max's zest for life lead him down the path of acting where his wit was mostly recognized. Shortly thereafter, Max worked 27 years as a Business Agent for Service Employees International Union. Once retire, Max renewed his career by working another 25 years for the Los Angeles Dodgers!
