

Morris Savich, age 100, of West Hills, California passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025. Morrie was born on July 15, 1924, in Omaha Nebraska of Russian Immigrant parents, Jack and Sophie. His Dad was strict, but he had a good childhood with lots of freedom. He joined the Army to fight in World War II. He was stationed in Europe where he was an expert morse code weather radio operator. After the War he joined his family who had relocated to Southern California, and he attended USC. He met his wife Annette at a Cedar’s of Lebanon Valentines Day party on February 14, 1948. The nurses needed some good men, so they invited the AEPi fraternity from USC. Morrie and Annette were married on June 20th. They had 2 children, Leslee born in 1953 and Linda born in 1955. Morrie worked for Sunbeam Lighting Company and in 1957 he was transferred to Gary, Indiana to be the Vice President of a new facility there. He and his family thrived and had a great life in a suburb call Miller on Lake Michigan. Morrie was always very active in Synagogue life at Temple Israel. In 1969, recession hit, and the family returned to Southern California. Morrie started a business in optical supplies and Annette, who was a nurse by training, went to work as a claims’ processor for Blue Cross. Once they retired, they were able to enjoy watching their 4 grandchildren grow. They were also able to travel to many places including Russia, Israel, China, Italy, Alaska and Brazil. After Annette was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia there came a time when Morrie could no longer care for her. In 2010, she needed to be a resident at the Jewish Home in Tarzana and Morrie moved to Fairwinds so he could be close to her. He visited her there every day for 3 years until her passing in 2013. He would spend his mornings with Annette and his afternoons helping the Fairwinds Community. For over 10 years he was the leader of their Residents counsel, welcomed new residents and collected bonuses for the Fairwinds employees. He was known as the Mayor of Fairwinds. He also was able to spend special quality time with his family. At the age of 95 he suffered a stroke and was unable to continue his active lifestyle. He did still enjoy seeing his family and engaging in the many activities offered at Fairwinds, until has passing on Monday. He was a dedicated husband, a great Dad and was liked very much by those who knew him. He will truly be missed by many.
Morris is survived by daughters Leslee Shillander and Linda Alper, grandchildren Sarah Glass, Rachel Shillander, Adam Alper and Aaron Alper and great-grandchildren Asher Glass, Mayer Glass, Noa Glass and Ari Alper.
A funeral service for Morris will be held Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Groman Eden Mortuary, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345.
