

Ronald James Mead, 83, passed away peacefully at home on December 19, 2023, in Granada Hills, CA after a battle with cancer. He was born on March 17, 1940, in Los Angeles, CA to Millard and Josephine Mead. After graduating High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years. He was married to Nancy (Stumpf) 1960-1983 and Patricia (Cox) since 1989.
Ron’s career was in the Newspaper industry in various positions taking him to Las Vegas, NV and various cities throughout California. In Novato, CA Ron and his first wife Nancy had a newspaper distributorship for several years giving a generation of youths their first job as paperboys/girls. He ended his career selling newspaper equipment throughout the Western States.
He loved fishing, playing golf, backgammon (any card game), betting on horses, cruising with his wife Patricia, walking Riley, working in his backyard and talking with the neighbors. Ron got involved in the NFLWP – a football betting league based in Reno, NV earning him the nickname Dodah. He was a member of their Board of Governors and was voted into their Hall of Fame.
Ron is survived by his wife Patricia, son Don (Lindsey), daughters Donna (Ken) and Dori (Jeff), stepdaughter Donna (Paul), stepson Curt (Richard) four siblings June, Bill, Ray and Steve, Six grandchildren Jeff, John (Coco), Katie (Hector), Jamie (Kris), Sam (Megan), Matt (Melissa) and three great grandchildren Jordan, Kason, Maya and his beloved dog Riley.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruby and Mae, brothers Bob, George, Ken and Richard.
Ron was known for taking short cuts on family road trips usually costing time 😊, he had a strong opinion on politics (Republican) which usually led to debates, he was very generous, always willing to help and will be missed by all.
A Military Service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 12:30pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin CA. All are invited to attend.
