and Fixtures passed away on Sunday evening, July 20. He was 89 years
old.
Sam was born in Omaha, Nebraska to David and Jenny Resnick. Together
with his older sister Vera, the family soon moved to Los Angeles where
Sam attended UCLA. It was there that Sam met Shirley Tennen. It was love
at first sight, and they were engaged after three weeks and married
after three months.
They bought a house in the San Fernando Valley, had three sons –
Michael, Richard and Steven – and a dog named Coffee and a big white cat
named “Mr. Ed.”
During this time, Sam labored hard to support his growing family,
working as a space planner for a company that specialized in pharmacy
design - St. John-Malone. Eventually, he opened his own company called
Resnick Pharmacy Design and Fixtures, and later, a second company called
Fixtures West. He was a skilled draftsman and an honest businessperson
and the companies soon thrived, with Sam designing literally hundreds of
independent pharmacies in and around Southern California.
Sam loved to travel and together with Shirley and the kids, regularly
camped up and down the west coast, a habit that instilled a deep love of
nature in their children, a love that persists to this day.
After Shirley passed away in 1990, Sam eventually met the woman who
would become the other great love of his life, Martha Widawer. These
were Sam’s golden years. He became “Papa Sam.” He continued to work,
travelled the world together with Martha, and was always surrounded by
family and friends.
Sam is survived by his three sons, Michael, Richard and Steven; his two
daughter-in-laws, Donna and Pauline; and four grandchildren, Brenna,
Aidan, Charlotte and Jack.
Funeral Services for Samuel Resnick will be at Eden Memorial Park on
Wednesday, July 23 ad 11:00am.
May Sam’s memory always be for a blessing.
Arrangements under the direction of Groman Eden Mortuary, Mission Hills, CA.
