Simon quietly passed in his sleep after a valiant, 7-year fight with cancer and the effect of a debilitating stroke.
After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High in Brooklyn, New York, Simon served his country with dignity and honor in Vietnam in 1965-66. He volunteered to enroll in the US Airforce instead of waiting to be drafted because serving the adopted country that did so much for his family after they immigrated from Europe in 1949 was a high priority to him. He returned to the States in 1967, married his wife of 47 years in 1968 and started his career in retail distribution soon after. His career with Glaser Bros/Core-Mark spanned 43 years until retirement. Over the years, Simon lived in Simi Valley, Anaheim, Temecula and - in his final years - Santa Clarita.
In his in final years, he enjoyed spending his time outdoors and earned several “Best Tan” awards. He loved watching his NY Giants and NY Mets on TV and is remembered by friends and caregivers alike for his carefree attitude and friendly wave. More importantly, his most cherished moments were his always with his beloved grandkids.
He is survived by his three adult sons (Jeff, Jason & Adam), their wives (Rachel, Laurie & Wendy) and six grandchildren (Bradley, Shane, Zabian, Nathaniel, Caleb & Zophia).
Rest, Dad! There is no more pain. Your job is done. Take solace in knowing that you are respected by all and truly loved by many.
