Toby Fox Shatanoff

Toby was born on December 25, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jennie and Abraham Fox. She grew up in Detroit alongside her younger brother, Kenneth (Kenny). The family spent their time surrounded by loved ones, often with aunts, uncles and cousins. Toby was very proud that between her Fox and Krakowski sides of the family she had seventeen first cousins.

Toby met the love of her life, Jerome (Jerry), when she was 18 years old and they married soon after on November 17, 1946. They were married 61 years before Jerry passed away in May 2007. Together they raised their family first in Oak Park, Michigan until they moved to California in 1968. After several years in Van Nuys, they bought a house in Woodland Hills where they lived from 1971 until Toby sold it in 2018.

Toby worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for over thirty (30) years and spent most of her time in the attendance and counseling office at El Camino Real High School.

Toby was devoted to her entire family, but nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great niece and nephews. This included not only her Fox family, but also Dan’s brother’s family who also referred to her affectionately as Aunt Toby. She also was fond of all of Susan’s friends and their children, and loved to spend the holidays with their families, attend showers, and play Mah Jongg and Bunco with them. Toby was a fierce competitor and a true card and game shark.

Toby is survived by her daughter Susan, son-in-law Dan, grandchildren Jason and Alisa, sister-in-law Christina Sabin-Fox, nephews and nieces Abram Fox (Sara), Rachel (Mark) Payne, and Matthew (Kiki) Fox, and great nephews and niece Kent Fox, August and Violet Fox, and William Payne.

Mom, you will be missed by everyone who knew you.

A service will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 11 am Eden Memorial Park, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills, CA 91345. Cantor Kathy Robbins will be officiating.
