Barbara Elaine Bass

She was born in Akron, Ohio on November 15th and lived in several cities during her life finally settling in Monroe, NC in 1977. She was preceded in death by her father, George Vestal Penley, and mother, Willie Mae Penley Campbell, and her beloved husband, Danny Bass.

She is survived by many members of her family who loved her very much, including her sisters, Jeannie Smith (Richard) and Brenda Curtis (Sean), her two sons, Bob Henderson (Terri) and Allen Henderson (Alisha), step-daughters Angel Whittaker (Scott) and Donna Veneziano; 7 grandchildren – Michael Henderson (Alana), Jessica Billions (Zack), Peyton Henderson, Lexi Henderson, Matthew Whittaker, Bethany Whittaker, Cody Whittaker (Hannah); and 4 great-grandchildren – Brent Sanford, Zoe Billions, Zack Henderson, and Logan Whittaker.

Elaine enjoyed keeping physically fit and attended yoga classes on a regular basis. She was an information technology professional for the city of Charlotte, NC before retiring several years ago. For many years she assisted seniors in the Monroe, NC area with a free income tax service.

A service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, NC. An interment ceremony will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, NC.
