Betty Jo Pollock

Betty Jo was born on December 16, 1929 in Union County to the late John Lewis and Elvie Mullis Helms. In addition to her parents, Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pollock. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Atwood, Floyd, Frank, John L., and Cecil Helms; sisters, Lucille Thompson, Esther Burnette, Clyde Thomas, Mary Hall, and O’Neal Andrews; and great-granddaughter Landrie Faith Scott.

Betty Jo never met a stranger and loved being around people. She retired from the Union County Health Department in 1988 and later moved to Siler City in 1999 to be closer to family. Betty Jo loved playing bingo, volunteering as a “pink lady” at Chatham Hospital, making sour cream pound cakes and peanut brittle, and eating out with family or friends. She was also a member of Bonlee Baptist Church. Her greatest love was being with her family.

Betty Jo is survived by her son, Frank Pollock and wife, Lois of Wesley Chapel, FL; daughter, Kathy Scott and husband, Scotty of Bear Creek, NC; four grandchildren, Matthew Pollock (Kate), Kevin Pollock (Paolah), Taylor Scott (Kelsey), and Amy Phillips (Travis); and ten great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro for the kindness, compassion, and exceptional care given to our loved one. You became part of her family and part of ours, too.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18th at 1:15 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina, with Rev. Charles Broome officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at McEwen prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 pm.
