She was the daughter of F.M. and Ruby Helms.
Brenda had many passions, which included Nursing at Union Regional/Atrium Health/Jesse Helms Nursing Center. She had a giving heart to everyone she came in contact with. She loved cooking, organizing, and serving neighbors and friends. In her final days, family members and friends would visit to express their gratitude for the love, help, and compassion she showed to them over her years of life.
Her greatest passion, though, was being a mother to her three children and Nana to grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren. She spoiled all of them, having a personal relationship with each.
Brenda's true love came later in her life, Russell M. Strippy. They were together only for 6 short years before Russ passed. From that time on she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, where she lived for 7 years. They became her primary caregivers as Brenda had many health problems throughout her life. As huge as her heart was, it was also broken and required many surgeries.
Brenda is survived by her children, Ginger (Keith) Shaffer, Jennifer (George) Prickett, and Scott Funderburk; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Brenda has two brothers: Steve Helms, and Little Carson Helms (deceased in childhood). She was a fierce protector of her brothers.
Brenda will be greatly missed by all who knew her. At family request, donations can be sent to Lee Park Church; 2491 Morgan Mill Rd., Monroe, North Carolina, 28110
