

Dr. Cecil Glenn Hargett, 67, of Wingate, North Carolina passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family Thursday afternoon, March 23, 2017 at the Hospice House of Union County in Monroe, North Carolina. Born in Monroe, to Vann Willard Hargett & Sarah Frances Rorie, he spent most of his life in Monroe and Wingate, North Carolina.
Glenn was a loving husband and adoring father, while excelling in almost everything in life. Growing up on a farm, he was raised with as a true southern gentleman and an incredible thirst for knowledge. Dr. Hargett received his undergraduate and master's degree at North Carolina State University, as well as his advanced degree from UNC Chapel Hill. He then obtained his Doctorate in educational administration with an emphasis in math from Nova University in Florida. Glenn spent most of his life in education administration which included, Union Elementary School, East Union Middle School, Sun Valley Middle School, and Monroe High School in Union County, NC, as well as Central High School in Pageland, SC. In addition to these accomplishments, he was an extremely active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, was a licensed realtor and licensed appraiser in North Carolina, owned and operated a
lovely antique store, loved sky diving, and was well traveled including the Amazon in South America. He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Vann Dale Hargett. Glenn is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Ann Whitley, daughters, Christy Hargett and Lauren Hargett, and grand-daughter, Jaclyn Williams. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald Hargett and his wife, Diane, of Monroe, NC, as well as his sister, Frances Keitz, of St. Joseph, MO and his sister-in-law, Louise Hargett. Glenn is also survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. Glenn was a prestigious and respected influence in the county, adoring husband, incredible father, and friend to all!
The family will receive family and friends Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 1:30 - 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Windsor St., Monroe, NC 28112. Funeral services will be held directly after, followed with Glenn will be laid to rest at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC.
Memorial donations may be made in Glenn’s name to Hospice House of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
