No coincidence this came up today. 
On a walk with Travis this morning, Lily's name came up as we talked about the Mimosa tree she helped me plant many moons ago. 
We discussed all the ways she mentored me on best ways to keep plants & flowers flourishing. Her words of wisdom live on in the hearts of those that knew her.

It's hard to believe it's been a year since my beautiful friend and neighbor passed away. 
I think of her "Lilly -isms" often. I miss her spirit of love and life.

Yaya, Always there with a smile, a quip or just plain Yaya.  Rod and I are blessed to have known her and the generosity she and Karl showed when inviting us into their family.  We will miss you 😘

This is a picture of a life size Raggedy Ann doll that Lily made for Tara when she was between 6 and 7 years old. 
I can now give her to my granddaughters and share memories of Lily. 

I first met Lily on June 20, 1984. Tim and I were moving into our new home in Waxhaw, NC., far away from family in S. Florida.  I had a 5 month old, a 3 year old, and a 7 year old. Lily blessed me with words of encouragement on that very first meeting. 
In my 38 plus years of knowing her, I always felt like she was more than a friend and neighbor. She was like an older, wise sister that  helped me through good times as well as the sad and difficult times.  As a matter of fact, she used to say "You've got to take the good with the bad".  
Our summer morning walks and talks are a fond memory.
Lily was like a grandmother to my three children and was always willing to watch them when necessary. She was an amazing, beautiful person in so many ways. Her essence, light, love and beautiful spirit will  live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

My thoughts are with you and your family. My deepest condolences to all of you. 

With sweet Lily's passing, I couldn't help but reflect on how amazing Lily was and the impact she had on my life. My earliest memories include lunch dates and shopping with Lily, after school visits with cheese and crackers as we watched the hummingbirds through the window. Life felt simple as Lily always made time for love and connection.

I think back on how Lily loved owls; the owl often symbolizes wisdom and understanding.  Much like an owl, I perceived Lily as someone who was always wise, simple, and very observant in her listening and love. Full of compassion and a beautiful laugh.

Lily and Karl were always there for me and my family. I think back to when my grandmother lived with us. Every surgery, they would be in the waiting room. Every holiday we would see them. They even made the journey to Florida for my wedding.  They are truly one-of-a-kind and true gems that gave of themselves and made those around them feel special. I feel very fortunate to have them as a chosen family. 

Lily and Karl beamed as they had their own grandchildren, they were always so proud of Tonya and her family. 

To my dear sweet Lily, my hope for you is that much like the birds we used to watch, I hope that your final flight was a good one. May you fly free and be at peace. Until we meet again. All my love.
